On Location

Full-crew production across China

Shooting on location in China tests any production, from the humid streets of Guangzhou to the highland plateaus near Chengdu and from Shanghai's rooftop skylines to the ancient alleyways of Beijing's hutong districts. Our teams are built around local knowledge, so logistics, crew planning, and on-set efficiency serve your schedule rather than fight it. We field skilled pros who have run shoots of every scale across the country. Our pre-production process surfaces and clears obstacles well before cameras roll.

Crews sized to the project, not a template — lean enough to move fast through Shanghai's hutongs, technical enough for Hengdian backlot scale.

Our camera and cinematography crews bring DP services, multi-camera work, and steadicam and gimbal operation to every production. Our lighting and grip teams handle everything from compact run-and-gun rigs to large-scale tungsten and LED setups on complex multi-department shoots. Drone videography is ready across approved locations, and we manage the airspace permits during pre-production so your aerial sequences stay on schedule. Technical excellence and on-set efficiency are the standards our crews hold on every shoot day.

FAQs

Production FAQs

Common questions about our production services, crew availability, and equipment support.

What crew sizes can you provide for productions in China?

We handle projects from two-person documentary units to 150-person feature crews. A typical commercial shoot runs 15 to 30 staff: a DP and camera team, a gaffer with two electrics, a key grip with a swing, a sound mixer and boom op, plus art department and HMU. We've crewed full Chinese units for Netflix series and covered single-day corporate interviews with just a shooter and audio. The network scales to fit.

How quickly can you mobilize a crew in China?

Beijing-based crew can often mobilize within 24–48 hours for urgent jobs—we've pulled together same-day news crews when stories break. Regional shoots need more runway. Figure 5–7 days minimum for locations outside major cities. The real constraint is mostly gear availability from rental houses, not crew. If you're planning ahead, 2–3 weeks gives us time to assemble the right team rather than just the ready one.

Do your crews speak English?

Our department heads — DPs, gaffers, sound mixers, and 1st ADs — speak fluent English and have worked on shoots abroad. That's a baseline for our network. Grips, electrics, and PAs vary, but we always make sure someone on each team can translate. For fully Chinese-speaking shoots, we field native crews across every department.

Can you provide equipment along with crew?

We work with TSF, Panavision Beijing, RVZ, and other Chinese rental houses daily. Most gear packages come with crew, since the gaffer runs their own lighting and the DP picks the camera gear. For global shoots that bring their own kit, we handle customs and carnet paperwork. Gear arrives tested and prepped, and we never send it to set without a proper checkout.

How do Chinese crew rates compare to other countries?

Chinese rates are competitive with Western markets. Our all-in quotes include social insurance costs, so there are no surprises. On longer shoots, regional production incentives can offset qualifying spend.
