Communication Systems
Professional on-set communication equipment keeping your production coordinated and running smoothly.
Here is how this works in practice. Production comms kit keep departments set up across sets, stages, and remote locations. Pro intercom systems, walkie-talkies, and wireless comms networks enable real-time planning between directors, assistant directors, camera, sound, and production management across the shooting day.
Here is the short of it. We give and configure comms kit packages scaled to your production's crew size and location complexity. Our team handles channel planning, gear distribution, and tech setup so your departments can communicate reliably from the first call to wrap each day.

Motorola, Hytera and Clear-Com comms with MIIT spectrum licensing in China
Here is what that looks like on the ground. Communication packages in China combine the brands global shoots know. Motorola digital and analog handsets, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, Vertex two-ways, IFB feeds for talent and surveillance earpieces for ADs — with Hytera, the Shenzhen-based Chinese alternative that has become the dominant rental-stock radio across Beijing and Shanghai depot inventories. Hytera gives a price-and-access advantage that matters on large-unit shoots. The radios interoperate with Motorola DMR frequencies when channel plans are set up correctly.
Here is how this works in practice. Wireless beltpacks, base stations, repeater systems, IFB feeds and camera talkback ship pre-programmed for your department channel plan — directors and 1st ADs on a separate group from camera, grip, electric, locations and stunts — with backup units charged and labelled.
Here is how the picture comes together. The hard part of comms in China is range, not gear. MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) is China's FCC equivalent and licenses each RF channel a foreign production operates. Short-term production permits need lead time, supporting forms and a frequency planning plan that our rental team prepares and files. Foreign shoots cannot legally operate unlicensed radios in mainland China. Enforcement at major hubs like Beijing Capital, Shanghai Pudong and Shenzhen Bao'an airports is active.
Here is what we have to work with. The picture on the ground is more specific. We survey locations in advance for coverage. Hengdian backlot, Forbidden City courtyards with thick walls, Shanghai Bund building canyons, and remote Yunnan or Inner Mongolia exteriors all behave in new ways — deploy repeaters where needed, and keep the coordinator on call through wrap to swap units, add radios mid-shoot and run frequency conflicts to ground in real time.
FAQ
Production Communication Expertise
What communication systems do you provide?
Here is the breakdown. We supply complete communication solutions including two-way radios (Motorola digital and analog), production headsets, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, IFB feeds for talent, and specialty planning systems. Gear ranges from basic walkie-talkies to full broadcast intercom installations.
How many radios do I need for my production?
Radio needs depend on crew size and production complexity. Typical feature shoots need 30-80 radios covering all departments. We help check your needs and recommend appropriate quantities with backup units. We can add gear as needed during production.
Can you provide coverage in remote locations?
Yes, we design systems for challenging locations using repeaters, long-range gear, and multi-site planning. We survey locations in advance when possible to identify coverage challenges and deploy appropriate solutions.
Do you handle frequency licensing in China?
We set up all frequency licensing needs with Chinese authorities (ANFR). This has short-term production licenses, frequency planning, and compliance records. Lead time differs by location and range availability.
What about intercom systems for video village?
We give complete video village communication including director-to-set comms, camera talkback, script supervisor links, and department planning. Systems can integrate with wireless video for full tracking and communication.
How do you handle equipment for multiple units?
For multi-unit shoots, we design set up communication plans with separate channels per unit, shared frequencies for key staff, and cross-unit planning skills. Each unit receives complete gear packages.
