Communication Systems

Professional on-set communication equipment keeping your production coordinated and running smoothly.

Scroll

Production communication kits keep every department connected across sets, stages, and remote locations. Professional intercom systems, walkie-talkies, and wireless networks link directors, assistant directors, camera, sound, and production management in real time all day.

We supply and configure kit packages scaled to your crew size and location complexity. Our team handles channel planning, gear handout, and tech setup, so your departments stay in reliable contact from the first call to wrap each day.

Motorola, Hytera and Clear-Com comms with MIIT spectrum licensing in China

Communication packages in China combine the brands that global shoots know. These include Motorola digital and analog handsets, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, Vertex two-ways, IFB feeds for talent, and surveillance earpieces for ADs. We pair them with Hytera, the Shenzhen-based Chinese brand that is now the top rental-stock radio in Beijing and Shanghai depots. Hytera offers a price-and-access edge that matters on large-unit shoots. Its radios work with Motorola DMR frequencies when channel plans are set up right.

Wireless beltpacks, base stations, repeater systems, IFB feeds, and camera talkback all ship pre-programmed for your department channel plan. Directors and 1st ADs sit on a separate group from camera, grip, electric, locations, and stunts. Backup units arrive charged and labelled.

The hard part of communication in China is range, not gear. MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) is China's version of the FCC. It licenses every RF channel a foreign production uses. Short-term permits need lead time, supporting paperwork, and a frequency plan that our rental team files. Foreign shoots cannot legally run unlicensed radios in mainland China. Enforcement is active at major hubs like Beijing Capital, Shanghai Pudong, and Shenzhen Bao'an airports.

On the ground, the picture gets more specific. Our team surveys locations in advance for coverage. The Hengdian backlot, Forbidden City courtyards with thick walls, Shanghai Bund building canyons, and remote Yunnan or Inner Mongolia exteriors each behave differently. We deploy repeaters where they are needed. Our coordinator stays on call through wrap to swap units, add radios mid-shoot, and settle frequency conflicts in real time.

FAQ

Production Communication Expertise

What communication systems do you provide?

We supply full communication packages, including two-way radios (Motorola digital and analog), production headsets, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, IFB feeds for talent, and specialty coordination systems. Gear ranges from basic walkie-talkies up to broadcast-grade intercom rigs.

How many radios do I need for my production?

Radio needs depend on crew size and how complex the shoot is. A typical feature shoot needs 30-80 radios to cover every department. Our team reviews your needs and suggests the right quantities plus backup units. We can add gear during production whenever you need more.

Can you provide coverage in remote locations?

Yes. We design systems for tough locations using repeaters, long-range gear, and multi-site planning. Where possible, our team surveys locations in advance to spot coverage gaps and deploy the right fix.

Do you handle frequency licensing in China?

We handle all frequency licensing with the Chinese authorities (ANFR). This covers short-term production licenses, frequency planning, and compliance records. Lead time varies by location and how much frequency range is open.

What about intercom systems for video village?

We provide full video village communication, including director-to-set lines, camera talkback, script supervisor links, and department planning. Our systems can tie into wireless video for full tracking and communication.

How do you handle equipment for multiple units?

For multi-unit shoots, we build communication plans with separate channels per unit, shared frequencies for key staff, and cross-unit coordination. Each unit gets a full gear package.

Productions in China that need this often pair it with Lighting Equipment Rental, Data Management Systems, and Monitoring Equipment Rental for full coverage. Most projects also draw on Wireless Microphone Systems and Monitor & Video Village.
