SCENE 01 / PORTABLE POWER SOLUTIONS
Portable Power Solutions
Professional power solutions for film production anywhere in China.
Portable power keeps shoots running where the mains grid is not reliable. In China, crews often film in remote mountain provinces, vast deserts, and rural villages. Battery systems, compact power packs, and hybrid units give the clean, steady energy that production departments need.
We source portable power matched to your load needs and location. Whether you film in rural Yunnan, the Gobi Desert, or the historic hutong areas of Beijing, our team reviews noise levels, runtime, and site factors. We then recommend the right power package for China's varied electrical setup.

On Location
Silent power tuned to China's 220V grid and altitude-derated locations
Power on Chinese shoots starts from a 220V single-phase, 380V three-phase State Grid (国家电网) baseline running at 50Hz. From there it scales out to the power packs and battery systems crews deploy on the ground. Whisper-quiet film power packs come in 20kVA, 40kVA, 100kVA and 200kVA classes through Beijing and Shanghai depots. Honda EU inverter sets suit small-scale documentary, Cummins and Caterpillar towables handle feature lighting loads, and Yuchai (Chinese-manufactured) units serve cost-sensitive regional shoots in Hengdian, Qingdao and Yunnan. Power pack operators come standard on anything above 40kVA.
Distribution mixes Schuko and Chinese 5-pin connectors, with proper RCD/MCB circuit protection feeding the lighting and grip departments. Lithium battery packs — V-mount and Gold-mount cinema batteries plus larger portable banks — cover sensitive interview setups, run-and-gun documentary work, and the growing slate of Chinese streamer shoots. Silent power matters for hutong narrow-alley shoots, shikumen courtyard scenes, and NRTA heritage interiors at the Forbidden City and Mogao Caves.
Chinese location work brings specific altitude, emissions, and noise limits that shape each power plan. Tibet plateau shoots above 3,400m need altitude-derated gensets. Standard sets lose 10-15% output for every 1,000m of height gained, so our depots stock higher-spec units that hold rated capacity at Lhasa, Shigatse, and Mount Kailash elevations. We file MIIT energy-rules forms for any deployment over 100kVA in tier-1 cities. Emissions-compliant Stage IV units are required inside Beijing's Sixth Ring Road, Shanghai's inner districts, and the Guangzhou Pearl River urban zone.
Power checks run against the gaffer's gear list. Aputure 1200d, Nanlite Forza 720, and ARRI SkyPanel loads draw very differently from Astera Titan tube banks, so we build in proper headroom for startup surge. State Grid tie-ins are arranged for Hengdian and Qingdao Wanda backlots when location permits allow. CFA crew rates plus 17% VAT cover all deployments across the dry shooting windows (May–September north, October–March south).
FAQ
Professional Power Services
How do I calculate power requirements for my production?
Power needs come from your gear list, and lighting draws the most. We help you add up total wattage, plan for startup surges, and pick the right power pack capacity with safety margins. Typical small shoots need 20-40kVA, while larger shoots may need 100kVA+.
What's the difference between film generators and standard generators?
Film power packs, also called whisper power packs, are built for quiet running, mostly 60-70dB at distance versus 80-90dB for standard units. That matters a lot when recording sound. They also give cleaner, steadier power for sensitive gear.
Can you provide power for remote locations without road access?
Yes. We supply helicopter-transportable power packs, portable battery systems, and solar solutions for remote sites. Planning ahead is key here, since remote power needs enough capacity locked in before the shoot.
Do generators come with operators?
Power pack operators are available and advised for larger shoots. They handle startup, tracking, refueling, load management, and troubleshooting. For smaller units, trained production crew can run them with a proper briefing.
What battery options are available for silent shooting?
We supply high-capacity lithium battery systems for fully silent power. These range from portable packs for small setups to large arrays for full lighting packages. Battery systems suit interview setups, sensitive location work, and any scene that needs zero power-pack noise.
How is power distribution handled on set?
We supply distribution boxes, proper cable runs, and connection hardware. Distribution is managed to balance loads, protect circuits, and deliver safe power to every department. Our electrical team or power pack operator watches distribution across the shoot.
