Location Sound Services
Professional on-set sound recording for film, TV, and commercial productions throughout China.
Location sound services cover the full audio capture workflow on set. Our crews record dialogue and ambient sound, and they run wireless systems and playback too. The work spans the dense urban soundscapes of Shanghai's Pudong district and historic temple sites in Beijing. We meet China's tricky acoustic challenges with locally approved gear. A skilled sound team captures each element of production audio cleanly, which cuts the need for costly post-prod fixes.
We offer complete location sound packages across China, with crews based in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. Each team is at home on both Mandarin and English-language shoots. Our staff match crew and gear to your production's format and scale, and the audio capture meets broadcast and theatrical distribution standards.

On Location
Location sound built for China's hutong, plateau and shikumen acoustics
Location sound capture in China runs on Beijing- and Shanghai-based mixers credited across CCTV drama, Mango TV variety, China Film Group features, and the iQIYI, Youku, and Tencent Video streamer slate. Most are BFA-trained or Communication University of China audio-engineering alumni. They work out of their own kit. Recorders are mostly Sound Devices 833 or 888 multitrack, with Zaxcom Nova or Maxx kept for cart-based feature shoots. The rental backbone comes from Mango Sound Beijing, Bird Audio, Tencent Audio, and iQIYI Audio Rental, plus Shanghai-based audio houses that serve co-productions and commercials.
Microphone choice tracks the location. The Sennheiser MKH416 covers the standard shotgun chair, the DPA 4017 takes close-coupled dialogue, and the DPA 4060 with Sanken COS-11 lavs handles wardrobe-hidden work for period drama costumes. Coverage stretches from Hengdian World Studios stage interiors through Beijing hutong stone-wall echo, Shanghai shikumen courtyard reverb, and Forbidden City stone-paved courtyards. The reach also takes in Pearl River tropical humidity, Hengdian outdoor backlot wind, Tibetan plateau wind at altitude, and the dust noise floors of Gobi and Taklamakan desert shoots.
Crews scale to the format. Two-handed documentary teams, a mixer plus utility, hold vérité shoots together through Yunnan high passes and Inner Mongolia grassland schedules. Full feature departments add a dedicated boom op and utility with an RF tech for MIIT-coordinated multi-channel coverage. Commercial sound runs lean and fast, and it follows agency direction across Beijing Sanlitun, Shanghai Pudong, and Shenzhen Nanshan tech-corridor sets.
NRTA on-set government monitor protocol applies to all foreign-led shoots and shapes how we brief crew on set conduct. It matters most inside heritage interiors at the Forbidden City, Mogao Caves, and Tibetan monasteries, where minimal-crew silence is enforced. Daily sound reports, scene metadata, and timecode handoffs are formatted to Chinese post-house workflow, from China Film Group post to Shanghai Film Studios and Beijing audio facilities. All crew are covered under CFA terms with 17% VAT forms for production accounting. The dry season from May to September works best across the north, while October to March suits Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Hainan southern shoots.
FAQ
Our Sound Network
What's included in location sound services?
Our location sound packages include a production sound mixer, pro recording gear, microphones, and basic wireless systems. We add boom operators, extra wireless channels, and special gear to match your production's scope and budget.
What recording formats do your mixers use?
Our sound mixers work with industry-standard recorders such as Sound Devices, Zaxcom, and Zoom F-series. We deliver in all common formats (WAV, BWF, polyphonic) with clean metadata, timecode, and sound reports that suit major post-prod workflows.
Can you handle challenging acoustic environments?
Yes. Our mixers are skilled at tough locations such as busy streets, industrial sites, and echoey spaces. We check the acoustics during tech scouts and suggest fixes such as wireless lavaliers, directional mics, and portable acoustic treatment.
How do you coordinate with post-production?
We deliver detailed sound reports for each shooting day, clearly labeled and sorted audio files, and direct contact with your post team. Our mixers know post-prod workflows and record with editing and mixing in mind.
What about multi-camera productions?
We handle multi-camera setups for TV, live events, and documentary work. Our mixers sync timecode across cameras and recorders, keep ISO tracks for each source, and deliver stems that make post-prod easier.
Do you provide sound equipment rental separately?
Yes. We offer standalone sound gear rental, from recorders and microphones to wireless systems and accessories. You can rent gear with or without an operator, and we can advise on the right package for your needs.
