Sound Recordist Teams
Complete sound departments for film, TV, and commercial productions throughout China.
A sound recordist team captures all production audio on set. They run the recording gear, place the microphones, and track audio quality in real time. Our teams work across China's huge production scene, from China Film Group Studios in Beijing to co-productions in Shanghai and Shenzhen. Each team usually pairs a production sound mixer, a boom operator, and a sound utility technician who work together for full audio coverage.
We size each sound team to your production, from single-mixer documentary setups to large feature film crews. Our Mandarin-speaking teams coordinate with Chinese post houses and deliver audio that meets SAPPRFT broadcast standards and global specs. We match skilled sound pros with the right gear packages, so audio capture stays reliable across your whole shooting schedule.

Full Chinese sound departments scaled to feature and streamer runs
A full production-sound department in China builds around a Beijing- or Shanghai-based production sound mixer, usually BFA-trained or a Communication University of China audio-engineering graduate. Boom and utility positions join as the script and shooting plan demand. Our teams hold credits across CCTV, Mango TV, China Film Group features, and the iQIYI, Youku, and Tencent Video streamer slate. That work includes co-productions shot through Hengdian World Studios, China Film Studio Beijing, and the Qingdao Wanda backlot.
For narrative drama, mixers mostly run Sound Devices 833 or 888 multitrack recorders. Cart-based feature shoots use Zaxcom Nova or Maxx. Lectrosonics SRc receivers are the rental-house standard from Mango Sound Beijing, Bird Audio, and Tencent Audio, and Wisycom MCR54 covers shoots with heavy channel counts. Sennheiser MKH416 shotguns and DPA, Sanken, and Countryman lav kits ride alongside. Mandarin-speaking team leads coordinate directly with the AD department, Chinese post houses, and the M&E prep workflow, so daily sound reports, scene metadata, and timecode handoffs stay clean for the iQIYI and Tencent Video delivery spec.
Right-sizing the department is the harder skill. A two-person documentary crew, mixer plus utility, holds vérité shoots together across Yunnan high passes, Inner Mongolia grassland, and Tibetan plateau schedules. A Chinese feature running six wireless channels with playback gets a full three-position team and a dedicated RF tech for MIIT post-700 MHz range planning. We confirm crew composition within twenty-four hours and hold scene matching across multi-week schedules, which matters on long-form CCTV and Mango TV drama runs. If illness or scheduling forces a change, we arrange replacement cover with a proper handoff.
Post linkage is part of the team brief. Mixers know whether the project heads to China Film Group's Beijing facilities or Shanghai Film Studios for ADR and dub, and they record with that facility's workflow in mind. All teams follow NRTA on-set government monitor protocol for foreign shoots, work under CFA crew terms with 17% VAT forms, and qualify for cash-rebate-eligible Hengdian and Qingdao shoots on tight delivery calendars.
FAQ
Our Sound Team Network
What positions make up a sound department?
A full sound department usually has three roles. The Production Sound Mixer heads the department, running the recorder and the mix. The Boom Operator handles primary microphone placement. The Utility Sound/Sound Assistant manages wireless, cable runs, and a second boom. Smaller shoots may combine roles, while larger ones add a Playback Operator or extra boom ops.
How do you determine team size?
Team size depends on how complex the production is—the number of speaking roles per scene, wireless needs, camera coverage, and shooting pace. We review your needs and suggest crew levels that balance full coverage with your budget.
Do your teams come with equipment?
We offer flexible options: teams with their own gear, teams with rental gear we arrange, or teams using gear the production supplies. Many of our mixers own full kits, while others prefer to work with rental gear.
Can you provide teams for long-running productions?
Yes. We support ongoing TV series, multi-week commercial campaigns, and feature films with steady sound team coverage. We can hold crew scene matching across your production or arrange rotating teams for long schedules.
What about replacing team members during production?
We can arrange replacement crew if a team member becomes unavailable during production. When we can, we pick crew who already know the project, and we ensure a proper handoff of production details to keep things consistent.
Do you provide sound teams for international co-productions?
Yes. Our sound teams are skilled at working with global shoots filming in China. They adapt to different workflows, blend into international crews, and can speak English as well as Chinese.
