Makeup Artists
Pro hair and makeup artists blending centuries of Chinese cosmetic artistry with modern production techniques.
A makeup artist designs and applies cosmetic looks for on-screen talent. That work runs from subtle beauty looks to elaborate character changes and prosthetic effects. China's makeup tradition spans thousands of years. It runs from opera face-painting and imperial court cosmetics to the modern C-beauty movement. That movement stresses glass skin, natural finishes, and fresh skincare-meets-makeup methods now shaping trends worldwide.
We connect you with makeup artists skilled in Chinese film and TV work across Beijing, Shanghai, Hengdian, and Qingdao. Our network has pros who work at Hengdian World Studios and Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis. They know the elaborate period looks that Chinese historical dramas demand, plus modern beauty standards. They also draw on both home-grown C-beauty brands and global pro product lines.

Why Us
Why Choose Our Makeup Artists
01.
C-Beauty & Traditional Expertise
Our makeup artists blend modern C-beauty methods, glass-skin finishes, and fresh Asian beauty looks. They pair this with deep knowledge of the traditional Chinese cosmetics used in opera and period drama.
02.
Climate Versatility
China's climate zones vary widely, from Beijing's dry winters and sandstorm season to Shanghai's humid summers and Yunnan's high-altitude UV. Our artists adjust products and methods to match each one across this vast geography.
03.
Imperial Dynasty Period Mastery
Chinese period dramas demand exact historical accuracy. Our artists specialize in dynasty-specific looks from Tang to Qing, covering elaborate headdresses, traditional face-powder methods, and the signature makeup styles of each imperial era.
04.
Domestic & International Products
Our artists reach China's booming beauty market, from top domestic brands to imported global lines. They source from suppliers in Beijing and Shanghai. Our team also keeps SFX lab ties at the Hengdian and Qingdao studio complexes.
On Location
Makeup artistry blending Beijing opera heritage with contemporary C-beauty
Chinese makeup artistry sits at a rare crossroads of Beijing opera face-painting heritage, Qing court cosmetics, and the modern C-beauty movement that has reshaped global glass-skin and gradient-shadow technique. Our network is anchored to the Beijing Film Academy makeup department and to Central Academy of Drama-trained artists. They staff the leading period dramas, including Empresses in the Palace, Story of Yanxi Palace, Nirvana in Fire, and The Longest Day in Chang'an.
These artists' dynasty-accurate headdresses, mei dian forehead ornaments, and Qing pingerhua hair lifts have set the modern benchmark for jade-skin and gauze-finish camera makeup. Their heritage reaches to Tim Yip's Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Oscar lineage on the costume-makeup crossover side. It also draws on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala makeup tradition, which trains many of Beijing's senior key artists. Each artist is vetted before we match them to a production. We check verified Golden Rooster, Hua Biao, or Hundred Flowers credits, or the Hengdian and Qingdao major-feature roster.
On the SFX and prosthetic side, the network reaches into growing creature and aging-makeup skill. That skill came out of Wandering Earth I and II, Three-Body Problem, and the Detective Chinatown franchise. Lab access runs through Base FX Beijing and the prosthetic shops clustered around the Beijing Film Academy. Our artists are fluent in HD-ready beauty finishing for streaming standards on iQIYI, Youku, and Tencent Video. They also master heat- and sandstorm-resistant setting for Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia desert shoots, and humidity methods for Hainan and Yunnan summer call sheets.
Productions get scaled departments sized to the call sheet and the climate. That can mean a single key artist, a full hair-and-makeup crew with assistants and standby touch-up, or massive background departments for Hengdian crowd-heavy period epics. Global co-productions get bilingual department heads and NRTA-compliant invoicing. When illness or schedule conflicts hit the daily, we place a replacement artist within forty-eight hours.

FAQ
Hair & Makeup Expertise
What makeup services do you provide?
We give complete makeup services. That covers beauty makeup, character and transformation makeup, prosthetic work, special effects makeup, and period-specific looks. Our artists in China work across features, TV, commercials, and the major period drama shoots that dominate Chinese studios.
Do you provide hair styling as well?
Yes, we give complete hair and makeup departments. Our hair stylists handle every styling need, from cutting and coloring to wig fitting, period hairstyles, and daily upkeep. Chinese period shoots often need elaborate wig and headdress work. Our stylists have deep skill in dynasty-accurate hair design.
Can you handle period productions?
Period work is a core strength in China, where historical dramas make up a large share of output. Our artists recreate looks from the Han, Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties with close attention to era-specific cosmetics, hairstyles, and accessories.
What about special effects makeup?
We work with skilled SFX makeup artists. They handle prosthetic work, creature effects, aging, injuries, and transformation makeup. China's studios at Hengdian and Qingdao have growing SFX skills. For complex prosthetic work, we set up with labs such as Base FX.
How do you handle large cast productions?
For shoots with large principal casts or heavy background makeup needs, we give scaled departments. China's huge production industry means skilled makeup artists are ready in large numbers. At Hengdian, artists are used to period drama ensembles of hundreds.
Do you provide makeup tests before production?
Yes, we set up makeup and hair tests during pre-production. These develop and refine looks, test products under camera, and record scene-matching references. For period shoots, the tests are key for checking complex headdress builds and confirming historical accuracy under studio lighting.
