Our HMI and tungsten stock in China sits across the Beijing prep network — Mango Studios, BFA Gear, and Beijing Film Gear. Shanghai Film Studio Rental and Pacific AV hold the Yangtze Delta stock. Hengdian Gear Rental and Qingdao Wanda Rental Supply stage the regional kit for shoots on the Hengdian Ming-Qing backlot or the Qingdao Wanda Studios sound stages.
Our team books the full daylight stack. It covers ARRI M-series M8, M18, M40, and M90 HMIs, ARRI 1.2K, 2.5K, 4K, and 12K Fresnels and Pars, K5600 Joker2 800 and 1600, and K5600 Alpha 4K and 9K. On features that hold to a celluloid-era look, we add the older 18K Mole-Richardson Big Eye Tens and 20K MaxBrute tungsten. The tungsten side also brings Mole-Richardson Fresnels 1K through 10K, ARRI T-series Fresnels, Source Four ellipsoidals, and Dedolight DLH4 and DLH1000 kits for fine interior modelling.
Electronic ballasts run through pre-shoot prep on each order. Spare 575W, 1.2K, 2.5K, 4K, and 12K HMI lamps ship in foam-lined cases. Tungsten globes for the full Mole-Richardson range ride in the truck, so the gaffer never loses a fixture to a blown bulb mid-setup.
Each fixture is load-tested and flicker-cycled at the rental house. On slow-motion days, output is measured against the camera's frame rate. DMX, Art-Net, and sACN addressing is logged on the lighting console before the truck leaves Beijing or Shanghai prep. Chinese gaffers and best boys from the BFA-trained and Shanghai Theatre Academy pools handle load calculations, neutral and earth checks, and tie-in planning with the local State Grid Corporation supply at studio stages or the silent power pack banks.
We stage Cummins, Caterpillar, and Yuchai generators at Hengdian and Qingdao for backlot and exterior shoots without reliable mains. Beijing winter cold and PM2.5 pollution drive enclosed fixture choices on January and February exteriors. Shanghai 70-80% year-round humidity shapes our ballast-condensation drying routine. Tibetan plateau altitude above 3,400m lowers HMI ignition reliability, so we ship double-spec spare ballasts. Gobi Desert and Inner Mongolia dust forces sealed filter stages on the Joker and Alpha Par fronts.
NRTA and Public Security Bureau electrical permits move through pre-production. ATA carnets clear at Beijing Capital and Shanghai Pudong cargo. Our 24-hour replacement cycle out of the Beijing and Shanghai duty office keeps the gaffer's lighting plot whole through the day.
