Virtual production in China has grown fast across the 2022-2024 window, led by three reference LED stages. The Shanghai Songjiang Film Industrial Park LED volume serves the eastern industrial belt. The Hengdian World Studios stage sits inside the largest film studio in the world by acreage. On the Yellow Sea coast, the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis Wanda LED volume is built for global features and high-end series.
Beyond these main stages, a growing set of XR studios in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen supports broadcast, commercial and music-video work across the country. Curved LED walls, ceiling panels and HDR-capable media processors build the in-camera worlds. These produce true eye reflections, surface highlights and interactive lighting that green-screen workflows cannot match. Chinese XR supervisors at Pixomondo Beijing, Base FX Beijing, Tencent and More VFX anchor the tech departments these stages need. The Beijing Film Academy and the China Academy of Art Hangzhou supply the next wave of VP crew.
Our coordinators book the facility at Songjiang, Hengdian and Qingdao. They build out the content pipeline with virtual-art-department crews working in Unreal Engine 5 and Disguise media-server integration. On set, our tech direction syncs real-time rendering with camera tracking systems including stYpe, Mo-Sys and Vicon. Pre-visualisation, asset creation and stage rehearsal all come before principal photography. We deliver photoreal worlds, period builds of imperial Beijing or Tang-dynasty interiors, modern mainland-city plates, and impossible-camera moves, each one ready for in-volume playback.
Finishing covers final compositing, grading and extra VFX. It runs through the Chinese post houses skilled at folding volume footage into the wider cut. Productions that qualify for the Qingdao 40% rebates can count LED stage rental, VAD spend and oversight fees among eligible costs, alongside the standard 17% VAT recovery on qualifying line items. The China Film Co-production Corporation handles foreign-production approvals across the schedule for narrative, episodic and commercial slates.

What is virtual production?

Camera tracking is what keeps backgrounds correct in perspective. We use pro tracking systems that sync the camera position with the rendered world. Parallax and perspective hold true as the camera moves.
