DIT & Data Technician Services
Digital imaging excellence across China.
A DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) runs the digital workflow on set in China. They make sure camera footage is captured well, backed up, and color-managed. Working next to the director of photography, they guard image quality and apply on-set looks. They also check that each frame is stored safely. Chinese shoots lean on DITs more each year as formats grow in size and detail. Local post houses like Base FX (Beijing/LA) need reliable data pipelines straight from set.
Our NeedAFixer network links you with skilled DITs across China. They bring tight technical discipline to on-set data. Whether you are based in Beijing or on location in Shanghai, our pros know every major digital cinema camera. They design secure, fast workflows that guard your footage from capture through delivery to post.

On Location
PIPL-compliant data pipelines into China's post houses
Chinese drama and feature production now routinely captures multi-camera Alexa 35, Venice 2, Burano, V-Raptor, and DJI Ronin 4D sessions at 4.6K to 8K. A single iQIYI or Tencent Video series often shoots fifty to a hundred terabytes a week. The DITs in our network are built for that volume. Their carts run Codex Vault systems, ARRIRAW and R3D transcoders, and DaVinci Resolve for on-set look management. Each shoot gets dual-redundant offload to RAID arrays plus LTO-9 archive. Every transfer is checked by Silverstack and YoYotta checksum tools. Finished dailies then flow into the post pipelines that Base FX Beijing, More VFX, Beijing Film Group post, Shanghai Film Studio post, iQIYI Post, and Tencent Pictures Post actually use.
They know the NRTA-aligned broadcast spec for iQIYI, Tencent Video, Youku, Mango TV, and CCTV. They format CDLs, ALE files, and ACES-compliant metadata exports so editorial in Beijing, post-houses in Shanghai, or VFX vendors at Pixomondo Beijing can ingest without manual cleanup. Sony X-OCN ST and LT transcodes are routine, and the network covers the full V-Raptor R3D and ARRI MXF workflow without compromise.
On-set colour is a separate layer of the service. DITs in the network calibrate their reference monitors daily with Calibrite Display Plus and X-Rite probes, build show LUTs with the cinematographer during prep, and keep shot-by-shot CDL adjustments as scenes unfold. Some shows need a more developed look on the floor, mainly Frant Gwo-school tentpole shoots and high-end iQIYI originals. For those, the team runs live grading directly in Resolve, including hero takes for client review.
Security and chain-of-custody are non-negotiable on Chinese shoots tied to Netflix, Apple, Disney, or major brand campaigns. This matters most on titles that touch Cybersecurity Law, Data Security Law, and PIPL 2021 cross-border restrictions. Our DITs work to studio TPN guidelines and log each drive transfer. They set up an encrypted hand-off to the post facility's data manager, and all talent-image and metadata handling stays PIPL-compliant. When a production shoots at Hengdian, Qingdao Wanda, or splits across many Chinese cities, we staff DITs and second-unit data managers as one team. That way the workflow stays uniform across each unit.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a DIT or data technician do?
A Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) runs the digital workflow on set. They handle data capture, backup, quality control, and color management. Each frame of footage is safely moved, checked, and stored. The DIT also builds on-set color looks and technical tracking for the cinematographer.
What skills should a DIT have?
A DIT needs deep technical knowledge of digital cinema cameras, file formats, color science, and data protocols. They must be careful and methodical, ready to work under the pressure of a live set. Fast troubleshooting matters too, since it prevents data loss and delays.
What types of productions need a DIT in China?
Any production shooting digitally in China gains from a DIT. The role matters most on feature films, high-end television, and commercial shoots that create large volumes of data. Productions at studios like Hengdian World Studios, or on location across Shanghai and Beijing, have the greatest need for dedicated data management.
How do you match a DIT to my Chinese production?
We check your camera systems, shooting format, data volume, and post-production needs. From there we suggest DITs skilled with your exact workflow. We also weigh which Chinese post houses you will deliver to, so the technician is ready for your data demands.
What equipment does a DIT work with?
A DIT works from a dedicated cart or station with high-speed data transfer hardware, RAID storage arrays, calibrated tracking displays, and color management software. They also use checksum verification tools and backup systems to keep full data integrity across the shoot.
