Sound Recordist Teams
Complete sound departments for film, TV, and commercial shoots across Beijing, Shanghai, and all of China.
A sound recordist captures audio in the field, whether that means dialogue, ambient sound, or specific sound effects for a production. From the huge stages of Hengdian World Studios to on-location shoots across Beijing and Shanghai, they pick the right microphones, run the recording gear, and check audio quality in real time. Clean field recordings form the base of a production's final sound design.
We connect you with sound recordists who bring both technical skill and a trained ear to location recording across China. Our network has pros skilled at China Film Group facilities, Wanda Studios Qingdao, and documentary fieldwork from the karst hills of Guilin to the Great Wall, each set on delivering clean audio that lifts the final mix.

On Location
Chinese sound departments assembled around the BFA-trained production mixer
Sound departments in China are built around the production sound mixer, who leads a team of boom operators and utility sound. This mirrors global practice, but it runs informally without a Local 695-equivalent guild, organized instead through the Chinese Filmmakers' Association and the China Film and Cinematographer Society. Our teams come from the working pool around Hengdian World Studios in Zhejiang, Wanda Studios Qingdao, Shanghai Songjiang Film Industry Park, and the Beijing Film Group lots. Their mixers and boom operators trained at the Beijing Film Academy and the Communication University of China before moving into long-form drama for iQIYI, Tencent Video, Youku, Mango TV, and CCTV.
The roster carries confirmed credits across Chinese theatrical tentpoles, premium streaming serials, and the brand-launch shoots for Huawei, Xiaomi, DJI, BYD, Tencent, and Alibaba. Gear packages center on Sound Devices 833 and 888 recorders, the Zaxcom Nova chassis, Lectrosonics SRc and SMQV plus Wisycom MCR54 wireless set up under MIIT range allocations, and Sennheiser, DPA, Sanken, and Countryman microphone kits.
Departments are sized honestly to the brief, not to industry defaults. A documentary moving between Guilin, Dunhuang, and the Tibetan plateau runs lean, with a mixer plus one boom operator. A Hengdian period drama or a multi-camera Tencent Video xianxia block carries full staffing, with utility sound, a second boom, and a dedicated playback operator.
Our departments are at home on global co-productions. Senior mixers take direction from foreign producers in English, then liaise in Mandarin with the assistant directors, the production office, and the local rental houses around the Aputure Shenzhen ecosystem and the Beijing Bayi Film Studio cluster. Booking one of our sound teams gives you a single point of contact for crew scheduling, gear planning, and the forms for the Qingdao 40% rebate process run through Wanda Studios Qingdao. You also get steady quality across long production calendars, from Chinese New Year tentpole prep through to a Shanghai International Film Festival or Beijing International Film Festival delivery deadline.

FAQ
Our Sound Team Network
What positions make up a sound department?
A full sound department usually has three roles: the Production Sound Mixer (department head, who runs the recorder and mixing), the Boom Operator (main microphone placement), and Utility Sound/Sound Assistant (wireless, cable runs, second boom). Smaller shoots may merge roles, while larger ones add positions like Playback Operator or extra boom ops.
How do you determine team size?
Team size depends on how complex the shoot is—speaking roles per scene, wireless needs, camera coverage, and shooting pace. We review your production and suggest crew levels that balance full coverage with a sensible budget.
Do your teams come with equipment?
We offer flexible options: teams with their own gear packages, teams with rented gear we arrange, or teams using gear the production supplies. Many of our mixers own full kits, while others prefer working with rental gear.
Can you provide teams for long-running productions?
Yes. We support ongoing TV series, multi-week commercial campaigns, and feature films with steady sound coverage. We can keep the same crew across your production or set up rotating teams for longer schedules.
What about replacing team members during production?
We can bring in replacement crew if team members become unavailable during production. When possible, we choose people already familiar with the project and make sure production details are handed over cleanly so the work stays consistent.
Do you provide sound teams for international co-productions?
Yes. Our sound teams are used to working on global shoots filming in China. They adapt to different workflows, blend well with international crews, and speak English as well as Chinese.
