Video Assist

Video assist in China has been shaped by the sheer volume of stage work running at once. It fills Hengdian World Studios in Zhejiang, Wanda Studios Qingdao on the Shandong coast, Shanghai Songjiang Film Industry Park, Chedun outside Shanghai, and the Beijing Film Group lots. In those places Chinese theatrical features, iQIYI and Tencent Video premium drama, CCTV serial work, and high-end Huawei, Xiaomi, DJI, and BYD brand campaigns move crews between shoots every week. Our video assist operators come from that same working pool.

They are pros who set up and strike the video village many times a week. Each one knows the signal routing of every Hengdian and Qingdao soundstage by heart. They carry the wireless transmission, recorder, and monitor packages that global features and series need. Crews often cover multi-camera blocks that capture three or four bodies at once. They manage director, client, and producer feeds at separate stations using SmallHD Cine, Atomos, TVLogic, and Sony BVM-HX310 reference monitors. They also keep backup recordings with the redundancy that broadcast standards for CCTV, iQIYI, Tencent Video, and Bilibili demand.

On location the same operators move with the production. They shoot Hainan and Sanya for tropical brand work, Yunnan and Guilin for natural-landscape drama, Dunhuang for desert sets, Tibet for high-altitude sequences, and Shanghai for fashion and commercial work. They keep rental ties with DJI Ronin 4D and Movi Pro operators, so the gimbal feed lands on the village with no timecode drift.

The picture on the ground is more specific. Gear packages cover QTAKE and Live Grade workflows for DIT-side colour, plus Pomfort Silverstack proxy generation, LUT management, colour calibration, slow-motion review, and clip-marking. These tools let the director compare takes at once rather than wait for dailies. Secure streaming for off-site producers is built in for global shoots whose stakeholders sit in Los Angeles, London, or Singapore.
