Motion Control Services
Robotic precision cinematography for VFX, commercials, and complex productions.
Motion control systems use computer-programmed camera rigs to execute precise, repeatable camera movements. These systems are essential for visual effects compositing, multi-pass photography, automotive commercials, tabletop product shots, and any sequence where identical camera moves must be reproduced across multiple takes or elements. Beijing and Shanghai are China's leading commercial production hubs, with high demand for MoCo rigs supporting Chinese brands and international agencies targeting the Asian market.
We source motion control rigs and experienced operators from across China, working with stage facilities at Hengdian World Studios, Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis, and Wanda Studios in Qingdao. Our team coordinates equipment delivery, stage time, and technical support so your motion control sequences are captured efficiently and with exacting repeatability.

Robotic precision for China's tech and automotive shoots
Motion control rigs answer a specific and demanding need on Chinese sets: identical, frame-accurate camera moves repeated across multiple passes for VFX compositing, multi-element photography, automotive tabletops and the high-end product cinematography that defines the country's smartphone, EV, beauty and FMCG sectors. Most large-scale motion-control systems still arrive on per-project import bookings — Mark Roberts Milo platforms, Bolt and the new Bolt X high-speed robotic arms shipped in from Korean and Japanese partners — and our crew coordinates the customs clearance, ATA carnet and bonded-gear paperwork these temporary imports need.
Here is how this works in practice. Smaller Modula platforms and tabletop rigs for macro work, liquid pours and food cinematography are sourced through Beijing and Shanghai rental houses for Huawei, Xiaomi, DJI and OPPO product launches, BYD, NIO, Xpeng and GAC Aion automotive reveals at Pingshan, Hefei and Guangzhou, Florasis and Perfect Diary beauty cutdowns and Mengniu, Yili and Nongfu Spring beverage campaigns commissioned out of Beijing and Shanghai agencies. We work out of Hengdian World Studios with its 130-plus volumes, Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis with its underwater tank and virtual production stages, Wanda Studios Qingdao and the Shanghai Songjiang Film Industrial Park.
Pre-visualisation sits at the heart of the process. Our crew programmes camera paths in software, times them against animatics and signs them off before stage time is consumed, which lets DPs and clients refine moves before talent or product arrives at Hengdian, Qingdao or the Songjiang volumes. On the day, frame-accurate repeats deliver every pass a VFX team needs: hero takes, clean plates, lighting passes, multi-pass element photography and matched moves, with motion data, camera tracking metadata and lens metadata exported alongside the footage to OpenEXR or ProRes deliverables.
The picture on the ground is more specific. Our team integrates directly with China's leading VFX houses — Base FX Beijing, Digital Domain China, MPC Shanghai, More VFX, Pixomondo Beijing, Mindwalk Studios and Light Chaser Animation — and aligns schedules with the Qingdao 40-per-cent rebate timelines where eligible, plus the standard 17-per-cent VAT paperwork. Operators carry credits across Huawei and Xiaomi product launches, BYD and NIO automotive cutdowns, beauty work for Florasis and Perfect Diary out of Shanghai agencies and the high-end commercial campaigns commissioned by Tencent, Alibaba and ByteDance brand teams, with the mandatory Chinese co-producer relationship in place for foreign productions, and full NRTA, CFA and provincial film bureau registration in place before stage day.
FAQ
Robotic Camera Expertise
What is motion control filming?
Motion control uses computer-programmed robotic camera systems that can execute precise, repeatable camera movements. This allows identical moves to be repeated for multiple passes, essential for VFX compositing, and enables moves too fast or precise for human operation.
When should I use motion control in China?
Motion control is ideal for VFX-heavy productions at Hengdian or Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis, automotive commercials shooting in Shanghai or Beijing, product work for Chinese brands and global agencies, and any sequence requiring frame-accurate repeatability.
What systems do you provide in China?
We work with major motion control systems available across China, including MILO for large-scale moves, Bolt high-speed robotic arms, Modula rigs, and smaller tabletop systems for product work. System selection depends on scale, speed, and payload.
Can motion control work with high-speed cameras?
Yes, motion control systems like Bolt are specifically designed for high-speed work, coordinating fast programmed moves with high-frame-rate cameras. This creates dramatic speed-ramped shots common in Chinese automotive, beauty, and beverage commercials.
How do you handle multi-pass shooting?
We program moves that can be repeated identically for each pass—talent pass, clean plate, lighting elements, etc. The precision of motion control ensures all elements align perfectly in compositing, supporting China's rapidly growing VFX industry in Beijing and Shanghai.
What about smaller tabletop work?
We provide smaller motion control rigs for tabletop, product, and food photography. These systems offer the same repeatability and precision at a scale suited to Chinese retail, food, beauty, and consumer electronics brands.
