They remove breaths and audible edit points, clean up bleed, and match background tone across reels. Then they prepare a polished dialogue premix before the mix engineer opens the session on the dub stage. IZotope RX and Cedar Studio are the standard restoration tools in these rooms. Supervising editors read each track closely. They know when a noisy Beijing hutong exterior, a wind-hit Yunnan location track, or a Shanghai shikumen scene with traffic bleed can be saved, and when ADR is the only path.

ADR sessions are directed in Mandarin, Cantonese, Sichuanese, Shanghainese, Beijing accent, or co-production language pairings. Engineers match the acoustic signature of the original location. They track room tone, microphone perspective, EQ curve, distance, and reverb, so the new line sits inside the production track. Casting flows through Beijing and Shanghai talent agencies on agency-contract dates. China has no formal voice-acting union, so agency representation is the practical equivalent.
