SCENE 01 / FIELD MONITORS
Field Monitors
Professional monitoring solutions for your Chinese production.
Field monitors are portable, high-resolution screens. Camera operators and directors use them on location to check focus, exposure, and framing. Pro units show true color, offer waveform tools, and stay bright enough to read outdoors, which makes them vital for location work.
We supply field monitors in the screen sizes, resolution, and feature sets your camera team needs. Our crew sources local units that match your camera's output signals, then folds delivery into your wider gear package so prep stays simple.

On Location
Calibrated field monitors for Chinese sets and locations
Most field monitor stock in China sits with a few rental houses. Mango Studios, BFA Gear, and Beijing Film Gear hold it on the western Fifth Ring. Shanghai Film Studio Rental and Pacific AV cover the Songjiang and Pudong corridors. Hengdian Gear Rental and Qingdao Wanda Rental Supply serve shoots on the Hengdian Ming-Qing backlot or the Qingdao Wanda Studios sound stages.
Our stock covers the SmallHD 702 Touch, 703 Bolt, Cine 7, and Cine 13 range, the Atomos Ninja V and Shogun Connect, and the TVLogic VFM-058W, F-7H, and LVM-241S. We also carry Boland 18 and 24-inch reference panels plus the Sony BVM-HX310 OLED reference for HDR-critical shoots. These deliver to iQiyi, Tencent Video, Youku, and the Mainland streamer pipeline that the NRTA approval chain runs through.
Director's monitors run from the 17-inch SmallHD Cine up through 24 and 32-inch TVLogic and Sony reference panels for full video village builds. For multi-camera setups we stage Decimator and AJA cross-converters with SDI distribution amps. Beijing winter glare across the hutongs, Tibetan plateau sun-loading at 3,400m, and Gobi Desert and Inner Mongolia exposure push us toward 3,000-nit on-camera screens, with sun hoods packed in each order. Controlled interiors at Beijing Film Studios and the Qingdao Wanda stages favour the OLED reference path with show LUTs pre-loaded.
Each unit is bench-calibrated at the rental house. Our techs use pro Klein K10-A and Konica Minolta CA-310 probes against Rec. 709, P3-D65, or Rec. 2020 PQ targets, set by the camera build. The show LUT goes on where the colourist has shipped it through, and a signed calibration report rides with the case before it leaves the Beijing or Shanghai warehouse.
Cases move under ATA carnet through Beijing Capital, Shanghai Pudong, and Guangzhou Baiyun cargo. Our customs broker handles the 17% VAT bond and the China Customs short-term import declaration. Chinese DITs and video engineers from the BFA-trained and Shanghai Theatre Academy pools run the on-set integration. They tie in with the Cooke /i Technology, Preston FI+Z, or cmotion cPRO focus systems and the Teradek Bolt 4K or Vaxis Storm 3000 wireless chain.
Each order travels with spare batteries in V-mount and Gold-mount, BNC and SDI patch panels, and SMPTE-rated fibre runs for long throws across Beijing Film Studios sound stages and the Qingdao Wanda backlot. It also carries articulating monitor arms plus Decimator and AJA Mini-Converters. Our duty office in Beijing and Shanghai runs a 24-hour swap cycle for failed panels and dead pixels. We pre-clear the Hengdian and Qingdao backlot routes with the local production office, so monitor carts and DIT trucks reach narrow-set spots without permit delays.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What on-camera monitors do you recommend?
For most shoots we suggest the SmallHD 702 Touch or the Atomos Ninja series, since they pair sharp image quality with strong brightness and flexible use. Both read well in daylight and add handy tools like waveforms and LUTs.
What size director's monitor is standard?
The 17-inch monitor is the usual pick for video village, and we also carry 24-inch and 32-inch options for bigger setups. The right size depends on viewing distance, how many people watch, and the space you have.
Can you provide wireless video?
Yes. We supply Teradek Bolt and Vaxis wireless systems for steady, zero-latency video feeds. These let directors and clients watch without a cable to the camera.
Do monitors come calibrated?
Yes. We calibrate every monitor before delivery with pro calibration gear, so color stays true across your whole monitoring chain.
What about HDR monitoring?
We supply HDR-ready monitors for shoots that need high dynamic range viewing. The range includes Sony OLED monitors and the SmallHD Cine series with the right brightness and color gamut.
Can you set up complete video villages?
Yes. We set up full video villages with director's monitors, client monitors, wireless receivers, and all the distribution and cabling you need.
