China is one of the world's largest theatrical markets and a founding Asian cinema culture — home to Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, Ang Lee, Wong Kar-wai, Jia Zhangke, Lou Ye, Bi Gan, Diao Yinan and Frant Gwo. And the country's production infrastructure has supported everything from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Farewell My Concubine, Hero and The Last Emperor through Mission: Impossible 3, Skyfall and the Wandering Earth blockbusters that reset Chinese box-office records.

Here is how this works in practice. We give full-service production support for studio-backed and independent features shooting in China, drawing on department heads from the Beijing Film Academy and Central Academy of Drama, with stage capacity at Hengdian World Studios in Zhejiang, Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis with the largest soundstages in Asia, Chedun Movie Town outside Shanghai, the China Film Group Huairou base, Huayi Brothers studios in Suzhou and Hainan, and Shanghai Film Studio.

Here is how the picture comes together. Regional rebates programmes shape budget structures. Qingdao gives up to a 40 percent cash rebates for qualifying shoots through the Qingdao East Movie Metropolis incentive, Hainan gives a tropical-incentive package, and Hengdian, Suzhou and Xiamen run their own production support schemes layered onto a 17 percent VAT base. Co-productions are processed through the China Film Co-Production Corporation (CFCC). This grants official co-production status that bypasses the thirty-four-foreign-film theatrical quota.

Here is what we have to work with. The picture on the ground is more specific.
